Port Jefferson Varsity Wrestlers Bound For State Championship

The team will compete in the dual meet championship Jan. 28 in Syracuse.

The Port Jefferson varsity wrestling team has qualified for the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Dual Meet Championship. After a tough loss in the Division 2 Suffolk County finals to Elwood-John Glenn, 32-27, the Royals qualified for the At-Large Bid for the state tournament. This is determined based on the number of returning All-County wrestlers, wrestlers with more than 20 wins and overall team record.

The Royals are seeded seventh out of 12 teams in the Division 2 tournament. The team will compete in the dual meet championship on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the SRC Arena and Events Center in Syracuse, New York.
