Press release from the Port Jefferson School District: Jan. 4, 2023 The Port Jefferson Royals varsity girls basketball game on Dec. 23 had a crowd of spectators and staff anxiously waiting for Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Lola Idir to reach the 1,000-career-points mark. Lola had 993 points heading into the contest. Lola did not make the crowd wait long as she reached the 1,000-career-points mark in the first quarter of the game against Smithtown Christian. "It was a great and well-deserved accomplishment for Lola," Athletic Director Adam Sherrard said. "The atmosphere in the gym was amazing. I am looking forward to watching Lola and her teammates work hard to bring another championship to Port Jefferson."<hr />This press release was produced by the Port Jefferson School District.
