Schooner "SoundWaters" Returns to Port Jefferson
Two hour educational sails will be availble.
The schooner SoundWaters will return to Port Jefferson Harbor on Aug. 9, docking at the pier in for educational tours of the Long Island Sound and evening sunset cruises, according to the village.
The SoundWaters is run by a Connecticut-based educational group that seeks to teach people about the Long Island Sound watershed.
"Through education, SoundWaters provides people with an understanding and awareness of the changes they can make in their lives and communities to restore, protect and preserve Long Island Sound and the Environment," the organization's website says.

The SoundWaters came to Port Jefferson last year and to cap off the schooner’s trip to the village, state legislators from Connecticut and New York attended at Harborfront Park to discuss what the two states could do to preserve the Long Island Sound for future generations.
After the conference attendees were able to board the schooner to walk around the deck and take part in .

The 80 foot-long, three-masted schooner will be in the village from Aug. 9 to 12 and people can reserve spots for educational sails and sunset cruises.
During the afternoon sails families can assist in hoisting the sails and get a firsthand view of life beneath the waves of the Sound. On the sunset sails, people can bring their dinners for a romantic view of the sun as it sets below the water.
