Man Dies After Car Crashes Into Pole, Fire Hydrant In Suffolk: Cops

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, Suffolk police said.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY — In one of two fatal crashes in the area within a day, a Shoreham man died early Sunday morning after he lost control of the car he was driving and it struck a pole, then fire hydrant in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk police said.

Christopher McGuckin was driving a 2012 Hyundai Genesis southbound on Route 112, near Washington Avenue, when he lost control of it, and it struck a telephone pole and a fire hydrant before crashing into a tree, at around 12:45 a.m., according to police.

McGuckin, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

McGuckin's vehicle was impounded for a safety check, according to police.

A 20-year-old Farmingville woman also died in a one-car cash in Moriches on Saturday night, police said.
