Want to Explore Port Jefferson? There’s An App For That Coming Soon Too

Chamber and village developing an iPhone app to navigate all Port Jefferson has to offer.

After Port Jefferson launched its parking meter app for smart phones earlier this month, it turned its technological sights on one for the village itself.

At the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday morning at Pace’s Steak House it was announced that a new application was in the works so people can download and navigate points of interest in the village. Barbara Ransome, director of operations for the chamber, said that the free application is forthcoming on the iPhone after the programmer works out the requirements involved with submitting to the Apple Store.

Village representative Jill Russell said that the application was being developed by Jim Faulknor at EZ Site for the chamber and the village. Both agencies will be splitting the cost of the application, which was not immediately available at the time of the writing of this article.

The application promises to make navigating the village easy for visitors and residents. Russell said that while development is not complete buttons on the application will guide people through popular categories like “Things to do,” “Lodging,” “Dining” and “Transportation.” Expanded drop downs will allow users to explore everything the village has to offer. The legwork for the application came from the recent development of the Port Jefferson village guide.

Ransome said that the application should be in the Apple store within a few weeks.
