WATCH: 'Positive' Protesters Kneel During 'Rally Against Racism'

The Port Jefferson Station rally was one of many marches across Long Island today, held in response to the death of George Floyd.

PORT JEFFERSON STATION, NY — Long Islanders continued to attend rallies and marches on Monday in response to the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd at the hands of police officers last week. At the "Rally Against Racism" in Port Jefferson Station, approximately 1,000 protestors marched at the corner of Routes 112 and 347.

The 2 p.m. rally was organized by Skyler Johnson, a candidate running for state senator in the first district. Andrew Michaels, who works at nearby pub Tara Inn, drove from his home in Wantagh to attend the rally because he was so inspired by the energy of the event.

"The young man running it is a future leader and was very impressive," Michaels said about Johnson.
