Man Gets 15 Years In Prison For Fatal East Flatbush Shooting, DA Says

Taliby Kaba, 24, pleaded guilty earlier this year to shooting a 23-year-old man after an argument with his sister's boyfriend and friends.

BROOKLYN, NY — A Brooklyn man who gunned down a friend of his sister's boyfriend in East Flatbush in 2019 will spend 15 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Taliby Kaba, 24, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty earlier this year to the shooting, which killed 23-year-old Kenny Joseph, prosecutors said.

"This senseless act of violence took the life of a young man," District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. "The defendant’s guilty plea and today’s sentence hold him accountable for his actions and offer a measure of justice for the victim’s loved ones. We will not tolerate gun violence in the streets of Brooklyn.”

The fatal shooting unfolded a February 2019 afternoon after Kaba got into an argument outside his East 94th Street home with his sister's boyfriend, the boyfriend's brother and Joseph, who was one of their friends, prosecutors said.

Kaba eventually chased his sister's boyfriend down the block with a gun and fired into the boyfriend's brother's car, hitting Joseph in the chest, prosecutors said.
