QUEENS, NY — Freshman congressman, accused serial liar and reputed dying dog fundraiser thief George Santos faces a cold, hard fact: New Yorkers want him to resign, according to a new poll.

Only 17 percent of New York voters surveyed by Siena College wanted George Santos to stay in office, the poll released Monday found.

Voters in New York City, where Santos represents a swath of Queens, want him to resign by a 39 percent margin, said Steven Greenberg, pollster for Siena College.

"But downstate suburbanites want him out by a 56-point margin, 71-15%, even more than Democrats," Greenberg said in a statement.

Downstate suburbanites, of course, include those who live in the Long Island communities that Santos represents for the Third Congressional District.

Santos, a Republican, came under scrutiny for numerous questionable biographical claims after he won the race for the district.

He is accused of a long and ever-growing list of lies, from claiming he attended Baruch College on a volleyball scholarship to denying — despite photographic evidence — he was a drag performer in Brazil.

And Patch last week first reported that Santos stood accused of taking $3,000 from a GoFundMe he had set up to pay for the veterinary bills of a dying dog owned by a disabled veteran.

The stream of accusations has not only prompted calls for Santos' resignation, but widespread mockery.

"Saturday Night Live" alumnus Jon Lovitz played Santos last week on "The Tonight Show" and mercilessly skewered him with a parodic spate of escalating lies.

Then, SNL proper poked fun at Santos in both its cold open and "Weekend Update."

"You even lied about being Jewish," SNL's Colin Jost said to Bowen Yang, who impersonated Santos.

"No, I said I was 'Jew-ish,' which is honestly icon-ick," Yang as Santos said.

The laughs, however, haven't translated to favorable ratings for Santos in the latest poll.

“Voters overwhelmingly view Santos unfavorably, including 55% of Democrats, 56% of Republicans and 59% of independents," Greenberg said.

"Again, downstate suburbanites lead the state, 76%, in their unfavorable view of Santos."
