QUEENS — Cops shot a knife-wielding man who stabbed a security guard in front of a church Thursday afternoon in Jamaica, authorities said.

Police shot the man swinging a knife in the air just before 4 p.m. in front of First Presbyterian Church on 164th Street, near Jamaica Avenue, which was holding a service, the NYPD said.

Before cops arrived, a woman notified a security guard at the church of a man "acting erratically," before the 40-year-old guard confronted the man and the woman entered the church, authorities said.

"We had to make a tough decision," said Chief John Chell during a press conference.

The man kept waving the knife, and then police tasered him, Chell said.

The suspect, security guard, and police were taken to nearby hospitals, and charges are pending, authorities said.

The police-involved shooting happened at about the same time cops fatally shot a 78-year-old man in Brooklyn after he charged a gun at officers, according to police.
