NEW YORK CITY — A man accused of dragging a dog down a New York City street and setting it on fire has been arrested, police said.

Isaiah Gurley, 29, was arrested Monday night and charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated cruelty to animals, and other offenses in connection with the violent abuse, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing Gurley dragging a motionless dog around 4:45 a.m. Thursday, near 128th Street and 116th Avenue in South Ozone Park, Queens, according to the NYPD.

Gurley then allegedly poured an accelerant on the dog and set it on fire, police said. He fled the scene on foot but was taken into custody on Monday.

Police said the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was notified about the investigation. The organization said it is working with the NYPD and will perform a necropsy on the dog to determine the cause of death.
