First-Ever 'Blessing Of The Cars' In Riverhead To Benefit Ukraine
The car show was conceived to help raise funds for war victims and aid the humanitarian crisis of the people in Ukraine, oganizers say.

RIVERHEAD, NY — Call it a car show with a heart: A first-ever "Spring Dust Off — And Blessing of the Cars" show will take place in Riverhead Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Ukraine.
The Peconic Bay Car Club will host the car show on Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m on the grounds of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, located at 820 Pond View Road in Riverhead.
The historic church was originally built by Ukrainian immigrants and recently celebrated its 100-year centennial anniversary, organizers said.

"This show is to help raise money for war victims and aid the humanitarian crisis of the people in Ukraine," organizers added.
At the event, GT Joey is slated to emcee and bring cars up on the red carpet. There will be “best in show” crystal trophies awarded in pre- and post-WWII categories, "with some very special cars expected to attend," including a very rare 1948 Tucker, which came in second place at the prestigious Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach, CA," organizers said.

In addition, special commemorative ribbons for the first 100 cars will be distributed.
Rev. Bohdan Hedz will offer a blessing of the cars. Rev. Hedz came to New York from Ukraine in 1998; he has been the priest of the church since 2014, organizers said.
"He has led a massive effort with church volunteers to collect clothing, food, and supplies. The church recently celebrated their 100th anniversary," organizers said.
In addition, at the event, DJ Jerry will play music from the Big Band era to early rock and roll; period dress is encouraged, with special prizes for the best outfits. Also featured will be food, raffles, trophies and more.
