Former Custodian Pleads Guilty in Drug Case
Troy Trent, a former employee in the Riverhead Central School District, pleaded guilty on Monday.

A Riverhead man and former custodian at the Pulaski Street School pleaded guilty on Monday to conspiracy in the fourth degree, a class E felony, after he was arrested in February of 2011 following an East End Drug Task Force investigation.
Troy Trent, 42, was originally , who said he and another man, Joseph Gilliam, sold cocaine to an alleged street-level crack dealer in Riverhead, Ramon Overton.
Trent pleaded down on Monday in return for the lighter sentence, and will serve one year of interim probation. This means that over the next year, he must not get arrested or test positive for drugs, according to District Attorney Spokesman Bob Clifford. He will be advised of his final sentence on March 26, 2013, Clifford said.

Trent resigned from his position in the school district in June, . Prior to his resignation, he had worked for the school district for 19 years.
Gilliam and Overton have decided so far to go to trial. Gilliam stands charged with second-degree conspiracy, and Overton with 16 different charges, including 10 felonies. Court records show that both are due back in court on Thursday.

According to findlaw.com, a person is guilty of conspiracy in the fourth degree when "he or she agrees with one or more persons to cause the performance of" a class B or class C felony. Overton stands charged with 10 class B felonies, including four counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance.
