Man Found Dead In Wooded Tent Encampment On LI: Police
He was found dead in Riverhead Monday morning, police say
RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was found dead in a wooded tent encampment in Riverhead Monday morning, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, at about 10:18 a.m., a call came in about a medical emergency involving an unconscious and unresponsive man in a tent encampment within the wooded area located north of East Main Street.
When police and the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived, officials found the man, 59, deceased by unknown means, authorities said.

The Riverhead Police Department's detective division and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office were both notified and responded to the location to assist with the investigation, police said.
Upon further investigation, the death does not appear to be suspicious; however, the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

The name of the deceased man is being withheld pending the notification of family.
