Man Used Fraudulent Credit Card Info To Make Purchases: Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — An Amityville man was arrested and charged after using fraudulent credit card information to make purchases in Riverhead and other locations, police said.

According to police, after a lengthy two-year investigation, the New York State Police Department's bureau of criminal investigation arrested Anton S. Millsaps, 34, and charged him with first-degree identity theft, a felony; second-degree identity theft, a felony; fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony; and four counts of third-degree unlawful possession of personal identification information, a misdmeanor, police said.

In November 2022, investigators received a complaint for a fraudulent purchase from the North Fork True Value located in Riverhead, police said. Investigators were able to identify Millsaps from the surveillance videos and connect him to the other crimes he had committed over the two years, police said.

Millsaps was known to walk into hardware stores and bike stores with a surgical mask, use fraudulent credit card information to make purchases, put those items in the back of a white SUV, and then drive off, police said.

New York State Police are asking for any witnesses, anyone with information, or anyone who believes that they were a victim to Millsaps’ crimes to call 631-756-3300.
