Pedestrian Airlifted With Serious Injuries After Riverhead Crash: PD
A report came in before he was struck about a man walking in the roadway, police say.
RIVERHEAD, NY —A pedestrian was airlifted after being struck by a vehicle in Riverhead on Friday, police said.
According to Riverhead Town police, the incident took place at about 5:10 p.m. A report came in about a man walking in the roadway near the Greenview Inn on West Main Street in Riverhead, and marked patrol units were dispatched to the area, police said.
Within minutes of the original call, a second call was received indicating that a man had been struck by a vehicle; officers arrived at the scene and found a man lying in the roadway with serious physical injuries, police said.

The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to treat the man, Bekim Zeqiri, 29, of Westhampton Beach, police said.
Zeqiri was subsequently flown from the scene by Suffolk County police aviation unit to Stony Brook University Hospital due to the severity of his injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old Riverhead woman, was also treated at the scene by Riverhead Ambulance and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded, as did the New York State Police Department's forensic identification unit, police said.
An investigation determined that the woman was driving a 2021 Nissan Sentra westbound on West Main Street and struck Ziqiri, who was attempting to cross West Main Street from the south shoulder to the north shoulder, police said.
Police said there does not appear to be any criminality involved; no charges were filed.
