- East End residents are invited to take part in an Alzheimer’s Community Forum on Thursday, April 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Riverhead Library. This free event is sponsored by The Alzheimer’s Association & Long Island Chapter and East End Committee. “The goal of the forum is to discuss the changing needs of people impacted by Alzheimer’s disease,” said Kate Anastasia, MPA, program director for the Alzheimer’s Association, Long Island Chapter. To register, call the 24/7 Helpline at 800.272 3900 or email longisland-programs@alz.org. (East End Beacon)
- Riverhead is gearing up to allow the sale of marijuana! The Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act specifies or bars them from locating in certain places. "Riverhead Town’s marijuana advisory committee will recommend to the town board that marijuana businesses be integrated into current zoning districts and kept away from certain land uses, including schools, libraries, places of worship, parks and beaches, with 500-foot to 1,000-foot setbacks," RiverheadLOCAL wrote. Following Gov. Kathy Hochul's edict, the first licenses would be given to business owners who were convicted of a marijuana-related offense. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- A humanitarian relief concert celebrating the music, arts, and culture of Ukraine will be held on Friday, April 22, at 8 p.m. at the Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts. Tickets are available with a minimum $20 donation, though guests are asked to give what they can, and can be purchased through the Box Office by calling 631-725-9500 Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at baystreet.org. (Broadway World)
- The story of a dog tossed in a dumpster has sparked a huge outpouring of caring: Not only are people coming forward to adopt a dog tossed by his leash into a dumpster, but a new effort in his name will help other pets. (Patch)
