  1. Since the three-story house fire in Riverhead that left five family members dead, the Riverhead Town Board has been working on changing the rental dwellings code. Last week, the code was amended requiring that all "third-floor rental units have increased safety measures, including a second means of egress, sprinklers and interconnected smoke detectors."   2. One of two Queens men, Jagger Freeman, 28, who took part in a phone store robbery that led to the tragic friendly fire death of NYPD detective Brian Simonsen of Riverhead in 2019, was convicted of murder Monday for his part in the fatal robbery. He is yet to be sentenced. His accomplice, Christopher Ransom, 30, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and other charges and was sentence to 33 years in prison.   3. The North Shore Rail Trail is open for cyclists and runners. It may have taken 50 years to happen, but now it is here, a 10-mile path that was once the Long Island Rail Road.   4. Catholic Health announced that in 2023 in Centereach it will be opening its first-ever "ambulatory center with urgent care across multiple specialties." The new facility will incorporate "primary care, behavioral health, women's health, cardiology, orthopedics and neurosciences," according to a statement from the health care system. (Patch)
