Here are the top stories in Riverhead today:
- On Saturday a ceremony was held marking the dedication of Riverhead's first heritage area, Bell Town. The community was founded by Cooper's father Mansfield Bell and his three brothers, who were grandsons of slaves. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- In an effort to crack down on neglect from commercial property owners, the Riverhead Town Board is considering increasing the fines for littering violations. The Code Revision Committee proposes fines for repeat offenders to go as high as $3,500. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- According to Riverhead Police, at 10:35 p.m., Friday night, gunshots were fired at a Riverhead apartment complex located on East Main Street. Police determined that a motor vehicle in the parking lot had been damaged by gunfire coming from the western part of the complex, police said. The investigation is ongoing; anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500. (Daily Voice)
- Peconic Landing is expanding its medical services with a new Center for Well Being. The center will bring in more specialty care physicians to the East End, according to a press release. (Subscription: Suffolk Times)
- Riverhead PAL's annual bike rodeo was held on Saturday at Stotzky Park. Youngsters in grades K-6 had their bikes tested, also tested was their handling skills in hopes of winning a brand-new bicycle or one of dozens of other prizes like tickets to Splish-Splash. (Instagram)
