Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:

  1. See the latest pets to go up for adoption at Riverhead area shelters. Meet Barbie, a domestic short hair up for adoption and who is waiting to meet you! Or you may consider fostering. Offering a needy animal a safe, comforting and supportive environment while she waits to be adopted, helps socialize a shelter pet to enhance her adoption potential. (Riverhead Patch)
  2. Who's hiring in the Riverhead area? This week’s newest job openings include marketing, security guard as well as customer service and sales. If you don't look, you will not find, so take a look at what jobs are available in our neighborhood. (Riverhead Patch)
  3. Starting the evening of Sunday, April 17, through Saturday, May 7, Riverhead Water District will conduct flushing of water mains during the evenings. Residents are advised to check the water before washing anything. Let the water run if there are signs of discoloration. For more information, call 631-727-3205 or 631-727-3200, ext. 338, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After hours or in an emergency, call the police department at 631-727-4500. (Riverhead News Review)
  4. You'll find something different at the North Fork Brewing Company in Riverhead — soda! Homemade, non-alcoholic ginger ale from a recipe the co-owner, Ian Van Bourgondien, developed with his father when they were still home-brewing. Try it! You might just like it.(Northforker)
  5. Stony Brook Heart Institute is one of only five elite sites nationwide and the only facility on Long Island to be chosen to take part in the first-phase clinical trial for PerQseal in advance of submission for approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). "The PerQseal device is the first suture-less, fully-absorbable intravascular ‘patch’ that seals an artery from the inside after heart valve repair or replacement. PerQseal has an enhanced bioabsorbable patch that is designed to address more complex patient anatomies," wrote Newsday. Congratulations Stony Brook! (Stony Brook News)
