Here are the top stories in Riverhead today:

  1. Peconic County Brewing and übergeek Brewing Company recently celebrated its 1-year anniversaries; making it through the first year is always difficult, but through the pandemic, well, let's just say almost miraculous. Long Island Press wrote, "Jeff Schaeffer launched Peconic County Brewing at 221 East Main St. in February 2021 with 10 beers on tap and a full kitchen. About six weeks after Peconic County’s kickoff, übergeek, a previously nomadic brewery, opened a tasting room and production facility in the former Moustache Brewing Company space at 400 Hallett Ave." Both breweries have outdoor seating to thank for getting them through the toughest part of the pandemic. 2. Calling all members of the Riverhead High School Class of 1972! You are invited to attend the 50th reunion celebration on Saturday, July 16 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Stonewall’s Restaurant at the Woods Golf Course, 967 Reeves Ave. in Riverhead. See ticket information. (RiverheadLOCAL)
  3. Francisco Andres-Miguel, 45, a Flanders man "was arrested Sunday night after he drove drunk with three children in his SUV and almost hit a New York State trooper in Riverhead," police said. Andres-Miguel had a prior conviction and also, was charged with aggravated DWI with a child under the Leandra's Law — as well as with endangering the welfare of a child. "In addition, Andres-Miguel had an active stay-away order of protection preventing him from being with the three children in the vehicle, and as a result, he was also charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor," police said. (Riverhead Patch)
  4. On the evening of Aug. 10, 2020, Bayron Fajardo-Gonzalez, 34, from Riverhead, had an argument with his girlfriend, 45-year-old Tania Fox. Fajardo-Gonzalez went to the home of Fox where he stabbed her in the chest multiple times in front of her young daughter. District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said, “This defendant will now serve an extensive prison sentence and her family and loved ones can hopefully rest a little easier knowing that the defendant has been brought to justice.” Fajardo-Gonzalez faces up to 20 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on April 27. 5. Alex Wolfe walked the distance across Long Island from the Verrazano Bridge to the Montauk lighthouse. Newsday wrote, "His journey covered nearly 160 miles over 9 days, stopping at iconic Long Island places along the way. Newsday’s Michelle Romano tells the story." (Subscription: Newsday)
