Here are the top stories today in Riverhead:
- On May 14, dozen residents of downtown Riverhead gathered in the basement of the Riverhead Free Library to brainstorm issues facing the changing downtown. The group is calling itself the Heart of Riverhead Civic Association, which was years in the making. Their intent is to keep residents aware of the ever changing downtown. (East End Beacon)
- Riverhead's annual bike rodeo takes place this Saturday morning at Stotzky Park. Kids in grades K-6 compete to win a brand new bicycle and other great prizes. Riverhead Police Officers will be there to score the cyclists on the bicycle safety course. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- The Town Board voted "no" to holding a second "Latin Music Festival" at the 4-H Camp June 12. They cited traffic jams and over the limit attendance. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- Summer traffic has always been a problem around the Farms on Sound Avenue. This year a proposed code revision that would ban parking on both sides of Sound Avenue for the whole of its 13-mile length in the Town of Riverhead is concerning the LI Farm Bureau and individual farmers. (RiverheadLOCAL)
- Long Island has plenty of spots to visit and pick fresh strawberries, usually in June. The next berries ready for harvest in July are raspberries and blueberries. Blackberries are the last to come into season, usually set for harvest in August. See a list of East End farms where you can harvest Long Island's best berries. (LongIsland.com)
