RIVERHEAD, NY — A Riverhead family is desperately searching for their dog, lost since Thanksgiving.

"Our livestock guardian dog went missing from our farm at 3652 Sound Avenue in Riverhead and has been seen moving east along Sound Avenue as far as Waterdrinker," Dianna DiMenna said. "She is comfortable with animals but not people, so we ask that no one approach or chase or try to catch her — just call us immediately, please. She’s a working farm dog and her animals need and miss her!"

DiMenna said she and her family are following the guidance of a professional tracker, who insists they do not release her name publicly, for her own safety.

"People can’t help themselves to call out to her and someone chased her, calling her name yesterday, and forced her into traffic," she said.

The dog is a white and cream Great Pyrenees, she said. She has been missing since Thanksgiving Day and was last seen on Sound Avenue and Sandpiper Drive in Riverhead.

"She is beloved by her family and her two other dog siblings," DiMenna said. "We are heartbroken at her absence. All we want is to bring her home safely, so if anyone sees her, we are pleading with them to call us right away. Thank you!"
