Detectives from the Major Case Squad, the Digital Forensics Unit, and Crime Scene Unit opened an investigation. The investigators believe the suspect and victim were involved in a verbal altercation on board a Bee-Line Bus. The disagreement continued after the two got off the bus at Yonkers Avenue, police said.
The altercation escalated from there, according to officials.
The suspect then pulled out a handgun and fired one shot, striking the victim in the arm, police said. The suspect, later identified as Levar Dimme, of Mount Vernon, fled from the scene on foot towards Bronx River Road, according to authorities. The 48-year-old is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Yonkers City Court on one count of first-degree assault, and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
"I commend the swift and professional actions of our patrol officers in apprehending this suspect and securing the scene," Commissioner Chris Sapienza said in a statement announcing the arrest. "The collaborative efforts of our patrol officers, detectives, and Crime Scene Unit were crucial in this investigation. We will continue to work tirelessly to hold those who commit acts of violence accountable."
