YONKERS, NY — A body found in a suitcase on a busy Westchester Parkway is believed to be that of a 26-year-old woman who was reported missing this weekend, according to several New York City media outlets.

Pamela Alcantara was last seen around 2 a.m. on Sunday at her home in the Bronx, according to NBC News New York. On Thursday, remains were found along the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers, according to the television station. Citing unnamed sources, NBC News is reporting that the family "strongly believe" the remains are Alcantara's.

As police searched for the woman, her ex-boyfriend became a person of interest in her disappearance, according to the NY Daily News. A license plate reader indicated that the ex had been in the area of Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, near where Alcantara's body was discovered inside a bag in a creek, about 100 feet off the Saw Mill River Parkway, law enforcement sources told the newspaper.

Alcantara's mother, Sunilda Rubiera, told News 12 The Bronx that the last time she spoke to her daughter on the phone was early Sunday morning as she was preparing for an event at church in Connecticut — but Pamela never arrived.

Police later took the dead woman's ex-boyfriend into custody, according to the Daily News.
