YONKERS, NY — A jury has convicted a teenager of charges related to the fatal shooting in Yonkers last year.

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that 19-year-old Ludvin Ramos-Cervantes, of Yonkers, was convicted Thursday morning of second-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for fatally shooting 51-year-old Francisco Gordillo in 2024.

He had initially faced charges of murder in the second degree, but was only convicted on the lesser charges.

"Mr. Ramos-Cervantes' dangerous and reprehensible conduct took an innocent life and shattered a loving family," Cacace said. "While no verdict can repair the damage he caused, I am grateful that my office was able to secure accountability for the defendant’s callous behavior. Gun violence is too often the cause of heartbreak, and my office is working hand in hand with local police departments to remove illegal guns from the streets of Westchester."

On Feb. 26, 2024, around 4:45 a.m., Gordillo had driven Ramos-Cervantes home after a night out drinking. Once he arrived home, Ramos-Cervantes briefly entered his apartment and returned to the car with a .45 caliber pistol.

Ramos-Cervantes then wrapped his arm around Gordillo and shot him in the head, according to prosecutors.

Gordillo was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teen initially told police that Gordillo had died by suicide, but then then later claimed the gun had been fired by accident.

The 19-year-old faces a maximum penalty of five to 15 years in state prison for the felony manslaughter charge, and a maximum penalty of 15 years in state prison for the felony criminal possession of a weapon charge.

Ramos-Cervantes is set to be sentenced on April 25.

The investigation was conducted by the Yonkers Police Department.

Cacace thanked the Westchester County Department of Labs and Research's Division of Forensic Sciences and the Westchester County Police Department's Ballistics Unit for their help with this case.
