In Irvington, 39 Ticketed During Seat Belt Enforcement

Village Police participated in a statewide "Click It or Ticket" enforcement this week.

Irvington Police hit the streets on Wednesday to enforce seat belt-wearing in the village.

According to a press release, the effort was part of the 2013 Buckle Up New York Click It or Ticket Enforcement Mobilization. Police officers were stationed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 29 on East Sunnyside Lane, Route 9 and Langdon Avenue.

"The checkpoint was coordinated by Irvington Police Sgt. Steven Delli Colli and is part of the Irvington Police Department's continuing effort to increase compliance with the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) and local traffic ordinances," the statement read.

Police stationed on East Sunnyside Lane and Langdon Avenue were also looking to enforce local laws that prohibit illegal trucking on the streets.

Two drivers were arrested for driving vehicles that had suspended or revoked registrations, while a total of 39 summonses were handed out for various vehicle and traffic violations.

"The Irvington Police Department wishes to remind drivers that seat belts save lives," police said.

Note: Arrests do not indicate convictions.
