Open Today: Irvington's Sandy Help Center

Local homeowners and business owners are invited to visit the Sandy Help Center at Irvington's Village hall today until 7 p.m.

The center, spearheaded by Congressowman Nita Lowey (D-Westchester/Rockland), was praised by Village Mayor Brian Smith.

"We want to ensure we provide whatever help we can to those still struggling to recover from Sandy," he said in a statement. "I would like to thank Congresswoman Lowey for her unwavering support of the victims of Sandy. From day one, Congresswoman Lowey pledged her assistance to those suffering and has not forgotten our village and the destruction we suffered in our waterfront business district."

According to Lowey's office, "Homeowners and small businesses are eligible to apply for home repairs, elevations, buyouts, mitigation assistance, and small business assistance" at the center.

Today, Lowey announced President Barack Obama has approved a 90 percent reimbursement level for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance funds for costs associated with Sandy damage.
