Second Teen Wanted In Park Slaying Arrested In Connecticut

YONKERS, NY — A 19-year-old man wanted in connection with a homicide that took place at a park in Yonkers last summer was arrested in Stamford on Wednesday night, according to the Stamford Police Department.

Kelvin Mitchell was charged in Connecticut with being a fugitive from justice without a warrant, police said. He was issued a $1 million bond and given a court date in Stamford of Feb. 19.

One man was killed and another was injured in the daylight shooting at Doyle Park in Yonkers on Aug. 26, 2024.

An extraditable warrant for Mitchell out of Yonkers carries charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

A 14-year-old Stratford resident was arrested last week and faces similar charges in connection with the homicide.

Mitchell was arrested without incident at a family member's apartment on Atlantic Street after the SPD's Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad, Special Response Team, K9 unit and patrol division conducted a search warrant, Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

The SPD was contacted by the Yonkers Police Department on Wednesday about Mitchell who was believed to be in Stamford, Conklin said, noting officers were familiar with him from another Yonkers homicide investigation from 2023. At that time, Mitchell lived on Lafayette Street, Conklin said.

"Through several investigative techniques," police said, officers were able to track Mitchell to the Atlantic Street apartment where he was ultimately arrested.

"This was a very nice combined effort to take this dangerous felon into custody without incident or anyone being injured," Conklin said.

Just after 5 p.m., on Aug. 26 of last year, the Yonkers Police Department received reports of shots fired at Doyle Park on Ashburton Avenue.

The first officers on the scene found two men with gunshot wounds.

Daquan Glenn, 29, sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including two gunshot wounds to the head. He was later pronounced dead at Saint Joseph's Medical Center.

The second victim was discovered a short distance away with a gunshot wound to the leg. He survived his injuries, according to police.
