2 Officers Injured While Attempting To Make An Arrest In Nassau: Police
Jerome Washington faces two counts of assault, police said.
FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY — Officers were injured while attempting to arrest a Queens man in Franklin Square, police said.
Police responded to Deli Santaneca on Hempstead Turnpike Thursday morning as a man was stealing items, authorities said.
Upon arrival, officers were met by a 60-year-old employee who stated that a man
took merchandise and exited the store without paying, police said.

The employee was able to point out Jerome Washington, 59, who was standing outside on
Hempstead Turnpike, police said.
Officers walked over and approached him and Washington became aggressive, police said.

The situation escalated and two officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as Washington was violent and combative while resisting arrest, authorities said.
Both officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries. Washington was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
He is being charged with two counts of second-degree assault and obstruction of governmental administration, police said.
Washington was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
