School-Zone Regulations Coming To Hempstead
See where the town board is updating traffic laws near schools.
HEMPSTEAD, NY. — The Hempstead Town Board met Dec. 9 and enacted a slate of traffic laws pertaining to schools, with updated school speed limits coming to three areas in the town and updated traffic regulations coming to two more. The full list of new traffic laws is below:
EAST MEADOW
The town board passed a resolution to outlaw U-Turns between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on school days for all traffic on Kalda Lane between Merrick Avenue and May Lane.

MERRICK
The town board passed a resolution establishing a 15 mile-per-hour school speed limit on Webster Avenue between Meadowbrook Road and the entrance of the Calhoun High School parking lot.

OCEANSIDE
The town board passed a resolution establishing a 20 mile-per-hour school speed limit on Stuart Place between Long Beach Road and the side entrance to North Oceanside Road Elementary School #5.
WEST HEMPSTEAD
The town board passed a resolution establishing a 20 mile-per-hour school speed limit on Eagle Avenue between Woodfield Road and Harrison Street.
WOODMERE
The town board passed a resolution to outlaw parking on part of Cedar Lane’s north side between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on school days, starting 54 feet east of the intersection with Irving Place and ending 35 feet from the intersection with Franklin Place.
