Changed by 9/11: RVC FD Chief John Busching

As we approach the 10-year anniversary of the events of 9/11, it gives us all time to reflect on happened that day and how it changed those of us who responded there forever.

I was a New York City police officer assigned to the emergency service unit and ended up being assigned as a paramedic for a search and rescue team.

What I have taken away from the experience is how fragile human life can be and how much I appreciate the time I have been given to enjoy the company of my family and friends.

I have seen the great evil mankind is capable of, but more importantly the great courage, compassion and kindness mankind is capable of. A day hasn't gone by in these 10 years that I don't think of what happened and mourn for those lost.
