Bowlers Raise $75,000 For Area Veterans

Maple Lanes in Rockville Centre hosts the BVL Open, a women's pro tour event, on Sunday.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY —The Professional Womens' Bowling Association started the week in Rockville Centre with an event alongside local amateurs.

It culminates with Sunday's championship round of the BVL (Bowling for Veterans Link) Open.

The week-long event is dedicated to giving back to former members of the armed services.

They expected to raise $75,000 for area veterans, Maple Lanes owner Joe LaSpina told Patch.

Prior to Monday night's "Bowl with the Pros," LaSpina, whose family has run the Rockville Centre recreational fixture since the 1960s, handed a $25,000 donation to the State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University.

Among the top bowlers to play in the "meet and greet" competition were: Danielle McEwan of Rockland County, Dasha Kovalova from Ukraine and Stefanie Johnson from Texas.
