BREAKING: Two School Buses Collide on Hempstead Avenue

Both drivers and one pedestrian were brought to a nearby hospital.

A school bus traveling east on Arrandale Road over Hempstead Avenue carrying nine Chaminade students was hit by an empty school bus at 7:30 a.m., sending the bus full of students into a residential brick fence.

Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital, but no students were hurt, officials said.

One girl, a South Side Middle School student who was waiting for her bus on the corner of Richmond and Hempstead avenues, was also brought to a nearby hospital. Officials said she was not hit by the bus, but fell running from the collision.

School officials said the empty bus was traveling north on Hempstead Avenue when it t-boned the bus of Chaminade students that was crossing Hempstead from Arrandale Road onto Richmond Avenue.
