Residents Force To Evacuate From Baldwin Building Fire: Police
A police officer and a firefighter suffered smoke inhalation, police said.

BALDWIN, NY — Firefighters battled an apartment blaze on Merrick Road in Baldwin on Thursday afternoon, police said.
The three-story apartment building fire houses between 160 and 200 residents, police said.
Upon arrival, police observed the roof to be fully engulfed with flames. The Baldwin Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.

All residents were out of the building and there were no injuries reported.
One Nassau County Police Officer and one Baldwin firefighter both suffered smoke inhalation and were evaluated on scene, authorities said.

The building is being condemned due to partial roof collapses in several places, police said. The Red Cross will be providing assistance. An investigation is ongoing, but the cause is not considered suspicious at this time, police said.
