Cops: Baldwin Teen Randomly Attacked Victim with Bat

One injured after Friday night incident in Baldwin.

A teenager was arrested Friday night after he allegedly attacked a man with a metal baseball bat outside of a Baldwin liquor store.

According to detectives, 19-year-old Baldwin resident Akil Brown was waiting outside the Grapes and Grains Liquor Store, located at 983 Atlantic Ave., with a bat when a 22-year-old male exited the store.

Police said that the 22-year-old, whom Brown did not know, was struck in the right forearm with the baseball bat.

Brown then raised the bat over his head and threatened a 38-year-old female and two males, ages 28 and 22, police said.

The side view mirror of a 2002 Ford parked at the scene was also damaged when Brown struck it with the bat, police said.

First Precinct police officers responded to the scene and after a brief foot pursuit placed Brown into custody on Bayview Avenue.

Brown is charged with assault in the second degree, three counts of menacing in the second degree and criminal mischief in the fourth degree. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday.

The lone assault victim was later transported to a local hospital for treatment by a Nassau County Police Ambulance. No other injuries were reported.
