Crime Watch: More Home Burglaries, Two Front Street Assaults

Recent police activity as reported by the RVC PD.

Arrests:

On Nov. 22 at 7:39 p.m., police received a phone notification for a burglar alarm at a residence on Allen Road in Rockville Centre. Upon police arrival, officers observed an open rear door and a male inside the residence carrying a bag with a laptop computer and assorted jewelry owned by the homeowner. When the officers attempted to arrest the defendant, he fought with the officers and attempted to take one of their weapons. The officers were able to place the defendant in custody after a physical struggle. Jerry Valery, 39, of Freeport, was arrested for first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree assault, third-degree robbery and resisting arrest.

On Nov. 22 at approximately 9:57 p.m., Emily A. Brodeur, 39, of Rockville Centre, was arrested for fourth-degree criminal mischief following an investigation by Rockville Centre Police personnel at her Brower Avenue residence.

On Nov. 26 at approximately 2:26 p.m, Romone D. Green, 19, of Freeport, was arrested for fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon following an investigation of police personnel in the vicinity of S. Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre.

Robbery:

On Nov. 22 at 7:59 p.m., a complainant office manager from a doctor's office located at 2000 North Village Ave. in Rockville Centre reported that she was the victim of a robbery involving a firearm by an unknown male who fled the scene on foot. Proceeds were $2,000 to $3,000.

Burglary:

On Nov. 22 at 11:30 p.m, a complainant from Harvard Avenue in Rockville Centre reported to police that unknown person(s) had entered his residence through an unlocked window without permission and stole a set of house keys and several pieces of US Mail. The proceeds from this burglary were initially discovered by police personnel while investigating the burglary of an Allen Road residence earlier in the evening.

On Nov. 23 at 6:47 a.m., a complainant from Voorhis Avenue in Rockville Centre reported to police that unknown person(s) had entered his residence through an unlocked window without permission sometime between 2 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. and stole $1,000, two computers, an XBox video game, a Blu-Ray DVD player and his 2006 Mercedes. The vehicle was recovered by Rockville Centre Police personnel a short time later in Hempstead.

Assault:

On Nov. 25 at 4:40 a.m., a Rockville Centre resident reported being assaulted by two male subjects while on Front Street in Rockville Centre.

On Nov. 25 at 4:40 a.m., an East Meadow resident reported being assaulted by two male subjects while on Front Street in Rockville Centre.

On Nov. 28 at approximately 2 a.m., a complainant from Bayview Avenue in Valley Stream reported that he was assaulted while in the vicinity of McFadden's Bar, located at 210 Merrick Road in Rockville Centre by an unknown male who fled eastbound on Merrick Road in a black motor vehicle.

Larceny:

On Nov. 23 at 8:40 a.m., a Knollwood Road resident reported an unknown person damaged the door of her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway overnight and removed a gift card from the vehicle.

On Nov. 27, a complainant from Masters and Co. Florist, located at 24 S. Village Ave. in Rockville Centre, reported that unknown person(s) stole a cement planter with plants from in front of the business sometime between Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 27 at 8:30 a.m.

On Nov. 28, a complainant from DeMott Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) entered the unsecured side porch to her residence sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and stole a Schwinn mountain bicycle valued at approximately $350 without permission.

Criminal Mischief:

On Nov. 24 at 4:30 p.m., unknown person(s) damaged a window at the Bagelman of Rockville Centre, located 191 North Long Beach Road.

Property Damage:

On Nov. 22 at 8:55 a.m., the manager of King Kullen, located 127 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre, reported that unknown person(s) damaged a shopping cart that was in the parking lot in front of the building between Nov. 21 at 9 p.m. and Nov. 21 at 9:30 p.m.

On Nov. 23 at 3:35 p.m., a Lake Ronkonkoma resident reported that unknown person(s) damaged the fender on her 2006 Ford while the vehicle was parked in the parking lot at Molloy College, located at 1000 Hempstead Ave. in Rockville Centre on Nov. 22 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

On Nov. 24 at 3:40 p.m, a Hempstead resident reported that the window on his vehicle was damaged by a golf ball which entered the road from the Rockville Centre Links Golf Club, located 600 North Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre while the vehicle was being operated on North Long Beach Road.  

On Nov. 25 at 1:30 p.m., a Rockville Centre resident reported that unknown person(s) damaged the window of her 2008 Mercedes while the vehicle was parked in the driveway between Nov. 24 at 10 p.m. and Nov. 25 at 1 p.m.

On Nov. 27, a complainant from Roxen Road in Rockville Centre reported that his rental vehicle was damaged by unknown means while parked at his residence between Nov. 24 at 11 p.m. and Nov. 25 at 9 a.m.

On Nov. 27, a complainant from Forest House Lane in Lewisburg reported that the driver's side rear window to his 2001 Toyota was damaged by unknown means while parked on Roxen Road in Rockville Centre between 12:01 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. 

Unusual Incident:

On Nov. 28, a complainant from S. Kensington Avenue in Rockville Centre reported to police that unknown person(s) made an unauthorized charge of $99.94 in Panama against his Bank of America credit card.

On Nov. 29, a complainant from Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) made an unauthorized charge of $220 against his Bank of America checking account.

Fire:

On Nov. 28, a complainant from S. Forest Avenue in Rockville Centre reported to police that she extinguished a fire in the basement of her residence. RVCFD investigated incident and transported the resident to NUMC for smoke inhalation.

Investigation/Village Code Violation:

On Nov. 23 at 2:42 p.m., police personnel assisted Rockville Centre Building Department personnel at 2 Lincoln Ave. in Rockville Centre. A building department investigation revealed that the building was structurally unsafe. The property has been ordered to remain closed until the violations have been corrected.

Property Lost:

On Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m., a Westbury resident reported that two license plates from his 2004 Hyundai were lost while the vehicle was at Autotech Collision, located at 132 South Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre between Nov. 12 and Nov. 24.
