Glen Cove Hospital Earns Rare Top Rating From Government Agency
Only 10 percent hospitals of across the country earned the five-star status from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — Several Northwell Health hospitals received glowing ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Glen Cove Hospital was one of the Northwell facilities to achieve five stars, the highest rating possible using data that evaluates outcomes, patient experience and process. Only 10 percent of 4,609 star-rated hospitals nationally earned the five-star status.
North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and Plainview Hospital received four stars.

“Northwell has always been a health system that values quality of care and the overall patient experience above all else,” said Michael Dowling, Northwell’s president and CEO. “CMS holds our individual hospital teams accountable to that level of care and more. Star ratings provide a baseline for excellence that we strive to surpass with each patient encounter.”
For Glen Cove Hospital, this marks the second straight year it earned the top rating from the CMS. It earned a top CMS rating in 2025, in part, because it scored well in 30-day readmissions, one of the most scrutinized government measures, as well as mortality, safety and patient experience.

Plainview Hospital was one of the Northwell hospitals to improve its rating from the previous year.
“We use CMS as a guidepost for quality, measuring ourselves against other medical centers in the region and nationally. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to improve what we already do well," said Dr. Peter Silver, senior vice president and chief quality officer at Northwell Health.
