Molloy Custodians Seek 'Fair Annual Increases' In Negotiations: Union
The 45 workers held a one-day strike on Dec. 10.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — The custodial workers are still seeking a new contract after holding a one-day strike earlier this month at Molloy University.
The university held negotiations with the union 32BJ SEIU on Dec. 16 and 17.
"Molloy pays their custodians significantly less than other nearby universities and Molloy has yet to put fair annual increases on the table for all of the custodians," said Lenore Friedlaender, Long Island Director for 32BJ SEIU.

Although the union admits to "some progress" in the negotiations, a spokesperson for union said the two sides are "still far apart on annual wage increases" for the 45 custodians represented by the union.
Molloy had nothing new to report about the negotiations, but a spokesperson said conversations are ongoing.

Wages have been the sticking issue in labor negotiations. Workers make as low as $16.50/hour, with an average wage of less than $19/hour, the union said.
