ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NYLong Islanders are finding creative ways to help neighbors during the coronavirus pandemic. For those working directly in harm's way, keeping their family safe is a top priority.

Kathleen McCormack is a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, caring for patients with COVID-19. She normally lives with her family in Rockville Centre but because her mother Ruthanne McCormack is immune-compromised, Kathleen was searching for a temporary place to stay to avoid putting her family members at risk.

The McCormacks saw an ad on social media for a camper van being sold by Nassau County Police Officer Michael Walker and his wife AnnMarie and inquired about renting the van for Kathleen. Michael and AnnMarie Walker, of Franklin Square, instead transported the camper to the McCormack house and insisted they keep it free of charge for as long as they need it.
