Reckless Driving Initiative Yields 178 Tickets In Garden City

The five-day No Empty Chair campaign was held to ensure that students develop safe driving habits.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The results of last week's No Empty Chair campaign in Garden City have been released.

The April 21-25 enforcement and education initiative focused on promoting safe driving habits among young drivers, particularly in areas surrounding local schools, student walking zones and bus stops.

Garden City police issued 178 tickets for various traffic and safety violations. The breakdown is as follows:

Three excessive speed in a school zone; 10 cellphone/texting violations; Two seatbelt/occupant restraint violations; Three suspended license/registration incidents; 17 unlicensed operator violations and 53 additional moving traffic violations.

"We are committed to ensuring the safety of our youth on the road," said Police Commissioner
Kenneth Jackson. "Through initiatives like the No Empty Chair Campaign, we hope to instill safe driving habits that will keep our students safe today and in the future."
