Report: Charges Dropped Against Laughing RVC Man

Charges against a Rockville Centre resident for laughing too loud in his own home were dropped by a village judge last week, according to various reports.

Robert Schiavelli, 42, was given two tickets for "disturbing the peace" at 6 p.m. on Feb. 12 and 13 after a neighbor complained to police about his loud laughing.

The New York Post reported:

Schiavelli was chortling because he says his neighbor often taunts him due to his disability — and his best defense is to laugh him off.

However, Rockville Centre Police said the summonses were issued after they received multiple complaints and issued several warnings about an ongoing pattern of disturbing the peace.

"On two occasions, police actually observed this individual creating a disturbance directed at neighbors and in violation of local law," RVC Police said in a statement.

The charges could landed Schiavelli with a $500 fine or 30 days in jail.
