Thief Swapped Mountain Bike For Better One: Nassau Police

A man rode one bicycle into an unlocked garage in Lawrence Monday and departed on another, police said.

LAWRENCE, NY — Nassau police investigating a burglary are searching for a man who rode one mountain bike into a detached garage on Cumberland Place at 10:50 a.m. Monday and left on a different one valued at about $600.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that a man riding a green mountain bike entered the garage behind the victim's home through an unlocked door. He left the green bicycle and rode out on a black Cannondale mountain bike. He was last observed westbound on Cumberland Place.

Police described the man as being male, Hispanic, 5’10” tall, medium build, 20–30 years old, wearing a grey long-sleeved sweatshirt, a blue baseball cap with white lettering, gray pants, white sneakers and a black backpack.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the burglary to contact Nassau County Police Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244–TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
