Top 9 Worst South Side Potholes

(Part two of a three-part series)

Potholes. 

They are the bane of every driver. An overly wintry season has left its mark on village roads, creating chasms filled with broken asphalt and a driving hazard for village residents. I drove around village streets on the South Side of town for a few hours, photographed and measured the largest potholes so you can be aware to steer clear of them!

Here's a list of the top nine worst potholes, in no particular order, on the South Side of town.

• River Avenue — A road in desperate need of repair, beware of potholes that litter the street. There were two I found that were one and two-feet wide, respectively.
• Riverside Drive — A one-by-two-foot pothole in the center of the street. Look out!
• Oak Street — Steer clear of a one-by-two foot pothole filled with broken street and rocks.
• Oak Street — Up the road maybe 50 yards is an oversized, three-foot wide pothole that measures nearly two inches deep!
• North Lewis — Beware of these two, side-by-side potholes just south of Sunrise Highway. Combined, the two potholes span nearly 3.5 feet in width.
• North Marion — Though this four-foot wide pothole is only a half-inch deep, it can put a tear into your tire. Beware!
• Ongley Street — This monster three-by-two foot pothole is nearly two inches deep, so drive around it or pay the price.
