Village Board: Message on Hurricane Evacuation

Residents who live south of Merrick Road are advised to seek shelter north of Merrick Road.

This is a message from the Village Board that will be delivered tonight to residents via the village's reverse 911 calling system:

In advance of Hurricane Irene, the Nassau County Executive has ordered an immediate, mandatory evacuation of residences south of Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.

Residents who live south of Merrick Road are advised to seek shelter with family or friends who live north of Merrick Road.

If you cannot find shelter with family or friends, Nassau County has established 20 public shelters. The list of those is available on the website of the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management.

The hurricane is expected to reach Rockville Centre sometime early Sunday morning. Expect very strong winds and intense rainfall.
