LONG ISLAND, NY — The time is running out for candidates to make their final pitch ahead of Election Day on Tuesday.

There are three congressional seats at stake across Long Island. The tightest one appears to be NY-4, pitting incumbent Republican Anthony D'Esposito against Laura Gillen.

"This is a race that Democrats probably need to win if they're going to win the House back," Kyle Kondik, managing editor at Sabato's Crystal Ball, told Patch.

While Kondik sees Gillen, who lost to D'Esposito in 2022, as the favorite, "it's still pretty clearly competitive and engaged on both sides."

With the presidential ticket atop the ballot, Kondik said it will bring more voters out to cast their ballots on Tuesday, and before that in early voting.

"I would think that D'Esposito would do better than Trump in the district, but he probably needs to do markedly better than Trump, in all likelihood, to win the seat," he said.

Heading to Suffolk County, where Republican Nick LaLota's reelection bid goes against John Avlon, who is "an interesting challenger and he's raised good money. But, I do think I would still rather be LaLota in that race," Kondik said.

As for NY-3, the seat that Tom Suozzi recaptured in a February special election, Kondik expects the Democrat to hold his seat.

"I think as for these three districts, the Suozzi one is where I'd be most surprised if the incumbent lost," he said.
