In school news, South Side High School's James Rodriguez and Steve Meoli finished in second place in their respective weight classes during the Sprig Gardner wrestling tourney. The boy's basketball team lost to Newburgh Free Academy during the Upstate/Downstate Challenge at Uniondale High School.

Patch counted down the Top 7 wins/stories from the fall/winter sports teams, and we profiled three South Side students who performed in the Eglevsky Ballet's performance of the Nutcracker. Dr. Ranier Melucci, superintendent of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, discussed the county's decision to shift the financial expense of tax certiorari settlements to school districts.
