In police news, four homes were burglarized on Muirfield Road on the same day. Town of Hempstead Animal Control rescued 17 malnourished and neglected dogs from a home on Clinton Avenue and removed five dead animals in the process. Two days later, RVC police were called to a home on Montauk Avenue after a foul smell was reported emanating from the residence. Upon entry, police found 24 dead animals and 17 caged and malnourished animals.
In school news, the high school boy's basketball team won a thriller against Sewanhaka after hitting the game-winning shot with three seconds left. The girl's team cruised past Sewanhaka in its matchup, blowing them out by 18 points. A group of foreign language scholars met in Hauppauge last Friday to discuss the future of foreign language education in New York State. A South Side senior, Ben Hawriluk, was named an Intel Science Competition semifinalist, and the school board received a study on the condition of its eight district buildings.
