CT Man Who Damaged Rye Home Trying To Steal BMW, Then Instead Took Family's Audi Q7, Captured In NJ: Police

RYE, NY — The suspect behind a wild joyride on New Year's Day has now been caught, according to authorities.
The City of Rye Police Department says that 26-year-old Joao Caetano De Sa, of Danbury, Connecticut, was arrested for a Jan. 1 burglary at a home on Drake Smith Lane.
Police say that during the burglary, Caetano De Sa caused significant damage to the home while trying to steal the family's BMW from the garage, and then ending up stealing an Audi Q7 from the driveway instead.

On Jan. 2, at 1:44 a.m., Bernards Township (NJ) Police Department patrol units responded to Verizon Headquarters, in Basking Ridge, NJ, after receiving a report about a man in a dark-colored, mid-sized SUV, who had driven through the gate after providing an invalid access badge.
Bernards Township police found Caetano De Sa on the third floor of the Sky Bridge Parking Deck attached to the Verizon building and arrested him.

Rye police were then contacted about Caetano De Sa being in possession of the Audi Q7 registered to the address on Drake Smith Lane.
Both police departments coordinated their investigations and filed charges against Caetano De Sa.
Caetano De Sa waived extradition and was picked up Wednesday morning at the Morris County Correctional Facility. After being taken to Rye Police Headquarters, he was charged with felony second-degree burglary, felony third-degree grand larceny, and felony second-degree criminal mischief.
Caetano De Sa was arraigned in Rye City Court with bail was set at $40,000 cash. He was then taken to the Westchester County Correctional Facility.
