Illegal Street Racers Busted On Long Island: Police

The pair were spotted on Friday day night by Street Takeover Task Force officers on Long Island, Suffolk police say.

BAYPORT, NY — Two men were cited after illegal street racing and reckless driving in Bayport on Friday night, Suffolk police said.

A 2015 Toyota Corolla and a 2008 Honda Civic traveling eastbound on Sunrise Highway, near Veterans Highway, were racing each other at 120 mph, the Toyota with the headlights off, around 10:40 p.m., police said.

Officers from the county's Street Takeover Task Force safely stopped both vehicles and cited their drivers, Anthony Obando, 19, of Brentwood, who was driving the Toyota, and Johan Martinez Jimenez, 19, of Brentwood, who was driving the Honda, for unlawful speed contest, reckless driving, and multiple other vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

Police said they are slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 6, and both vehicles were impounded.
