How Sayville Students Make Every Child’s Dream Holiday Dinner Possible Each Year

More than 500 guests gathered at Sayville High School for the annual event.

SAYVILLE, NY — Sayville Public Schools hosted its annual Every Child’s Dream Holiday Dinner on Dec. 12, welcoming more than 500 guests to Sayville High School for an evening filled with celebration and holiday magic.

The tradition, held at the high school since 2010, transforms the building into a festive winter wonderland designed to give children and families in the community “a little Christmas” they might not otherwise experience.

This year’s celebration featured a wide variety of activities, including an ice cream sundae bar, balloon animals, coloring stations, face painting, and a DJ for dancing. Families browsed a clothing boutique staffed by volunteers, full of clothing donated by the community. Guests also enjoyed a festive dinner, and each child had the opportunity to visit Santa and receive a gift. A popular “Candyland” candy shop allowed children to fill goodie bags with sweet treats of their choice.

The special event is organized in part by the Student Government and advisor Jennifer Sohl, in coordination with the Christmas Magic organization and the Mangan family, who help support this initiative each year in memory of Ken Mangan. The entire school community contributes, with every club and organization playing a role in bringing the night to life.

“Every Child’s Dream is truly a labor of love for our students and staff,” said Student Government Advisor Jennifer Sohl. “Our goal is to create an evening in which every child and family feels welcomed, celebrated, and cared for. Seeing our students work so selflessly to bring joy to others, and watching the smiles on the faces of the children and families who attend, reminds us of the incredible power of community.”

In the week leading up to the event, Sayville students dedicated their time to creating holiday magic for attendees. They sorted clothing and jackets, wrapped donated gifts, and prepared every detail to ensure families felt the spirit of the season. The halls were also decorated with festive artwork made by the students.

“The Every Child’s Dream Holiday Dinner showcases the best of Sayville,” said Stephanie Bricker, Sayville High School Principal. “Students leading with kindness, staff working side by side, and a community that continually lifts others up. Watching our students create this experience for families is truly the highlight of the year.”
